Vienna, 24 November 2022 – Reduce emissions, recycle products, help people – For many years Wienerberger has consistently followed its sustainability strategy, based on ambitious targets regarding the environment, social dimensions and corporate governance (ESG). I have pursued it. To steadily improve the company’s performance, the actions taken are regularly evaluated by his EcoVadis, a leading international ESG rating agency.
Wienerberger climbed the rankings again this year, earning a new high score in ESG management and winning its first gold medal. Of all the companies in this sector evaluated globally by EcoVadis, Wienerberger ranks in the top 4% for overall scores and in the top 1% for sustainable sourcing.
“Sustainability is a central element of the Wienerberger strategy. We offer infrastructure and building solutions for future generations. We care about the environment and use natural resources sparingly. We support social projects for people in need. For us, this top score in international ESG rankings is an important benchmark and framework for sustainable corporate strategy. It confirms that we are taking the appropriate measures in the future,” said Heimo Scheuch, Chairman of the Board of Management of Wienerberger AG.
Top Sustainability Scores Rewarded
In the EcoVadis ranking, Wienerberger outperforms its international peers in all areas: environmental protection, workers’ rights and human rights, ethical behavior and sustainable sourcing. The company’s highest sustainability score also yields direct benefits, as Wienerberger has chosen a sustainability-oriented form of bank financing. Interest on such bank loans will depend, among other things, on sustainability ratings determined by EcoVadis, which will give the company a financial advantage. Better sustainability performance means lower funding costs.
