Stanwood — Residents of northeast Stanwood have about a month to put their hats on the ring for an appointed school board position.
The Stanwood Camano Board of Education is accepting applications for board vacancies through January 6. Director Ken Kristofferson submitted his resignation to the board on Tuesday.
“The time has come for me to step back. I am truly delighted to be involved in the teaching of Stanwood Camano School District,” Christofferson said in a prepared statement. Reinforces my belief that Stanwood Camano is well-suited to remain a great place for years to come.”
Christofferson will step down as the longest serving school board member in the history of the school district, according to a press release. From 1995 he served on the school board until 1999, and from 2003 he served on the school board until 2022.
He was re-elected to a four-year term in November 2019. He served as Chairman of the Board for 10 of his 24 years on the Board.
“It’s hard to imagine the Stanwood Camano School Board without Ken Kristofferson,” board member Natalie Haglund said in a prepared statement. A stabilizing force with a constant focus on how decisions affect students, his love for the Stanwood-Camano region and dedication to our district is unwavering. It will be difficult to replace.”
In a brief resignation letter shared with the board, Christofferson said he felt he could no longer “spend the time I thought I needed” on the board, but as a member of the community the district continue to support
Vacant seats represent District 4, which includes areas north and east of Stanwood such as Cedarhome, Lake Ketchum and Sunday Lake. You must live within these boundaries to apply for a seat.
The Board will appoint new members to serve until the next regular election in November 2023.
Applications are available online. The application deadline is January 6th at noon.
