(Daily Caller) – A member of the Pennsylvania school board is resigning after telling its board chairman that he won’t be voting for a “cis white man,” the school said in a statement Monday.
Upper Moreland School Board member Jennifer Sorott announced on January 6, 2023, following backlash over her comments that the community was “upset,” according to a statement Monday by the school. I will resign from the board of education on the 2nd. Soloto said electing “the only cis white man” to be president would send the “wrong message” to the community.
“Ms. Soloto’s comments at the Board Reorganization Meeting are hers alone and are not intended to represent the views of the UMSD Board or the district as a whole,” the statement said. “Certainly, Greg Delia, the director to whom her comments were directed, said he supports diversity, but these comments do not promote diversity, and we believe that there is not much to do in our community. It was not reflected.”
Soloto has served on the Upper Moreland Board of Education for five years and is stepping down because he “doesn’t want to be distracted from the great things that are happening” within the school district, the statement said. It included working to hire based on qualifications without discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
“The Upper Moreland School District is committed to providing our students, staff and community with a school environment where everyone feels safe, valued and heard,” the statement said. It is written. “This is a commitment that we take very seriously.”
The Upper Moreland School District referred their statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation.
