Grain Valley, Missouri – Events to raise money for a Missouri legislator’s campaign have raised eyebrows in his hometown of Grain Valley. Jeff Coleman and his campaign plan to auction the AR-15.
According to a flyer posted by a citizen for Jeff Coleman, Missouri District 32 incumbents will have a barbecue in the park at the Grain Valley Community Center Field on Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. There are cornhole, baked beans and AR-15 raffles.
One description on the event page quotes “An unnamed defense device that can be placed in the rear window rack of a pickup truck or in the den’s rack.” However, the attached flyer clearly states that the gun being drawn for $10 per ticket is his AR-15. This is the same firearm used in the Uvalde school shooting and many others.
FOX4 reached out to Grain Valley School District, where Coleman is also a director.
“Our school district has nothing to do with campaigning for elected office,” said Amanda Allen, spokesperson for the Grain Valley District.
After being notified by viewers, FOX4 called and emailed Coleman last week and Tuesday.
FOX4 also went to his home, but so far he has not commented on the raffle.
Oretta Box said, “I couldn’t believe it when I read that because of the ongoing gun control and mass shootings.
“Firearms, in my opinion, are firearms, and as long as you use them properly, like most citizens of the country, any firearm can hurt and kill. not.
Coleman’s opponents in the race say she’s not fundraising, she’s just running, so she’s not unopposed.
“It’s not a gun, it’s a weapon of war,” said Janice Brill, Coleman’s Democratic challenger.
Brill said he would encourage Coleman to replace the AR-15 with a hunting rifle or personal protection gun.
