Steve Brant of Minneapolis has seen the color of Lake Harriet’s bandshell change to “the color of mud.”

During the last major renovation in 2004, the color changed from blue to brown. Around his Labor Day, Brandt petitioned to restore the colors, as the pavilion faces another renovation project. Over 1,500 people have signed.

The Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Commission plans to make a final decision on the Bund Shell renovation plan on December 7. The color will be slate blue, a light blue gray already included in the design plan, Cliff said. Swenson, director of design and project management for the Parks Commission and his project manager for the renovation, said:

Swenson adds that looking through old records, he was unable to find the exact name of the original blue color and why the color was changed to brown.

“When it was blue, it stood out like a beacon across a lake,” Blunt said. It’s like if it was suddenly painted orange instead of the natural green.”

The Lake Harriet Band Shell bustles with concerts, movies, and other performances during the summer months. It was his fifth bandshell in the area, built in 1986, replacing a “temporary” structure that had been in place since the 1920s. The first railroad was built in his 1888 by the Minneapolis Street Railroad Company to increase passenger traffic along extended tracks into the area.

About 15% of the cedar shingles on the current band shells on the roof are rotten and chipped for over 35 years. The refurbishment will cost about $2.3 million, and the source of funding has not yet been determined, Swenson said.

Swenson said the renovation will install a new roof system called “Cedar Breather,” which will help keep the shingles underside ventilated to extend their life.

“Previously, it has been about 35 years since these shingles. He said. “Again, same wood shingles, same product put back, but a better roofing system.”

The renovation is expected to be completed one year from now. The Band Shell will remain open to the public during construction.

“I want this color to be the color that the public wants,” says Parks Commissioner Kathy Abeen, who made the renovation of Lake Harriet’s shingle shell one of her priorities early in the campaign. said Mr. “And I’ve heard from people that they really want blue. For example, not a single person contacted me and said, ‘Keep it brown.’

“It feels like we’re restoring a treasure,” Blunt said, as the color change possibilities increased.
