    The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) requesting comments on proposed rules for the operation of unmanned aerial systems in the 5030-5091 MHz band. The proposed rule grants unmanned aerial systems new rights to license in-band spectrum for secure communications.

    Unmanned aerial systems currently operate using unlicensed or experimentally licensed frequencies in various bands. To increase the reliability of the next generation of advanced unmanned aerial systems, the proposed rule will allow fully licensed operation in the 5030-5091 MHz band, and will provide users with protections to protect their operations from harmful interference.
