Coles will launch SecondBite’s annual Christmas campaign today by donating 5000 hams to underprivileged families and community organizations this Christmas.
The Christmas Ham will be distributed by SecondBite to local food charities across Australia to help struggling families and community organizations host festive Christmas gatherings.
Shoppers can make this year’s appeal by purchasing a $2 donation card at the Coles supermarket checkout today through Christmas Eve, or by donating at Liquorland, First Choice Liquor Market, or Vintage Cellars stores through December 13. We can support you. All funds raised will help SecondBite rescue unsold food and deliver it to nearly 1,100 community food relief organizations nationwide.
SecondBite ambassador and chairman Matt Preston said the funds raised will help food relief across the country in the form of ready-to-eat meals, food baskets and essential ingredients.
“This has been a very challenging year for SecondBite’s community food partners, with nearly 40% of organizations reporting a significant increase in demand for food relief,” he says.
“Rising rent and utility bills are making people prioritize their finances in ways they never have before. I skip meals to keep me on.
“That’s why the Kohl’s SecondBite Christmas Appeal is so important. It helps SecondBite perform a vital service of receiving food from supermarkets and suppliers every day and getting it to those who need it most. For just $2, shoppers can help SecondBite provide 10 meals worth of meals to those in need and families.”
Since 2011, Coles and its customers are said to have helped SecondBite provide more than 190 million meals to Australians in need. Throughout the year, over 800 Coles supermarkets and distribution centers donate unsold edible food to his SecondBite and its network of food relief and community organizations across Australia.
