CHALK RIVER, ON, Nov. 28, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), Canada’s premier nuclear science and technology laboratory, and Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, Canada’s Nuclear Crown Corporation AECL) is happy to announce. They announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ontario Institute of Technology to pursue joint research opportunities. The MOU is the second agreement CNL and AECL have signed in recent weeks and aims to foster closer collaboration with Canadian academia, focusing on health and environmental sciences, clean energy, nuclear energy and more. We have established an inter-organizational framework for promoting joint safety research.
As part of the new agreement, the organizations will work together to promote joint research programs, foster professional development of top talent, develop academic and non-academic programs, and facilitate shared access to professional infrastructure. To do. Overall, the MOU will build closer collaboration between research institutions, enable knowledge mobilization, foster innovation and intellectual property development, and advance solutions that address both national and industry challenges. “CNL makes it a priority for the organization to work closely with the Canadian academic community. “By partnering with the Ontario Institute of Technology, we will pool resources, accelerate early-stage research, facilitate knowledge transfer, and work together to meet the needs of the nuclear industry and the federal government.” Most importantly, this MOU provides a dynamic and concrete foundation for the next generation of Canadian scientists, engineers and technical professionals who will be needed to meet tomorrow’s many challenges. It helps create opportunities for professional growth.”
“AECL is proud to announce today our partnership with the Ontario Institute of Technology. The Ontario Institute of Technology is an enthusiastic partner that attracts the best and brightest students and researchers. It is an exciting opportunity that will help us fulfill our mission at AECL, both in a programmatic way and in close collaboration with strong academic partners like the Ontario Institute of Technology. As a department, AECL, CNL and the Ontario Institute of Technology will tackle our country’s greatest challenges.”
“Ontario Tech looks forward to entering this dynamic and expanding phase of cooperation with both AECL and CNL in strategic areas including small modular nuclear reactors, hydrogen and integrated energy systems,” said Ontario Tech. Through its strong history of energy and nuclear research expertise and programming, Ontario Institute of Technology plays a unique role in the energy industry as a developer of future talent and creators of business solutions. “
A key focus identified in the agreement is talent development, a common concern for all three parties. As the only Canadian university with the third largest accredited nuclear engineering undergraduate program in North America, Ontario Institute of Technology plays a key role in training the next generation of nuclear scientists, engineers and operators. Together, the organizations explore opportunities to develop undergraduate and graduate learning experiences in the form of co-ops and internship placements. Encourage mentorship and networking programs for students. Establish employment mechanisms for graduates and alumni. Facilitate the development of research committees and research teams. The agreement also includes the Chalk River Laboratory, the Brilliant Energy Laboratory, the International Atomic Energy Agency Cooperation Center, and the Center for Cybersecurity and Resilient Systems.
The recent agreement is also consistent with AECL’s mission to enable nuclear science and technology in Canada, and CNL’s new corporate strategy, Vision 2030, which was launched earlier this year to ensure CNL’s future leadership in the Canadian nuclear environment. We are identifying what we see as a central role. CNL serves as a national resource for all levels of government, the nuclear industry, the broader private sector, and academia, working with other organizations to promote innovative Canadian products and services, including carbon-free energy. We aim to promote the development of Cancer and other therapeutics, non-proliferation technologies and waste management solutions.
