Hyderabad: Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) had planned to raise salaries for 47,000 employees in 2017, but five years have passed and there is nowhere to be found announcing any salary revisions. Their Dear Allowance (DA) and two consecutive raises have also been on hold for a long time.
As per the pay scale agreement, companies are required to raise their employees’ salaries once every four years. The salary, which was due to be fixed in 2017, remains in limbo, including the money that needs to be added to the salary figure. The company’s workers’ union has called on the state government to revise the salaries of public transport workers to be on par with the state-owned public sector.
According to RTC employees, the pay scale has remained unrevised by the government for almost six years. The long-awaited salary revision and equipment has not yet been implemented for RTC employees.
Former APSRTC chairman and trade union leader M Nageswara Rao said RTC workers had been neglected by the government. “Civil servants are paid less than other civil servants of the same level in the public sector and are deprived of their rights. We have asked the government to amend the pay scale, just like any other government agency or state-run public sector,” he said.
“RTC employees receive a base salary of 10,880 rupees. Other state-owned public sector employees who work eight hours a day, such as the Power Department, receive a relatively higher minimum wage of 23,380 rupees,” said Nageswara. , added. , “The State Power Authority received a new pay scale this year, but no revision to the TSRTC, something we haven’t seen in the last 50 years of the company’s history.”
An RTC employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “Since 2017, the cost of living has risen and we employees are still receiving a six-year-old salary. We are powerless and unable to support our families with this salary.” is difficult. We urge state governments to review and increase pay scales compared to other public sector employees.”
